Academy Pass Outs 2011

Well, Its that time of the year when all the movie pundits sit and discuss about how movies have fared this year. Which ones are going to get nominated at the Big 3 [BAFTA, Golden Globes and The Academy Awards] and which ones are going to get nominated at the Razzies.

Okay, After spending around 2 days in research, Thanks to Wiki and imdb, Heres My list of Nominees this year. Assuming that the Oscars are still predictable and they apply the same "ground rules" as they always do when they are nominating.

Like, If a guy is mentally retarded and he's got a hidden talent such as playing ping-pong or counting cards he's got more chance of winning it than anyone else. For Eg. Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump, Dustin Hoffman in Rainman. If you go fully retarded, You might end up getting just a nomination Sean Pen for I am Sam. So, Like Robert Downey Jr says it... Never go fully retarded!! :D

Also, If an actor
(a) Agrees to bare all

(b) Act as a transsexual or as a homosexual

(c) As a person who is just in a real bad medical condition where they are about to die,

Will win it, Hands Down

Eg. Kate Winslet in The Reader, Hilary Swank in Boys Dont Cry & Million Dollar Baby, Daniel Day Lewis in My Left Foot, Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Capote and the list is long!

And Finally, If the movie has a tragic ending its definitely going to win!! This Includes Gladiator, There will be blood, Titanic :D

Enough with the crap, Now movies contending for this years prestigious and the most predictable awards are

Shutter Island - Best Director, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Achievement in Cinematography

Inception - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor(s), Best Supporting Actor[Female], Best Original Screenplay, Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score[ Jeez why do they have such long names!!] and the Technical Section which includes Sound Editing, Editing, Art Direction, Visual Effects & Costumes

The Social Network - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor(s), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score and the Technical Section

Black Swan - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor

127 Hours - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score and the Technical Section

True Grit - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Achievement in Cinematography and the Technical Section

The Kings Speech - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actor[Female], Best Original Screenplay and the Technical Section

The Fighter - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Screenplay and the Technical Section

Toy Story 3 - Best Picture, Best Animated Feature and the Technical Section [this movie made me cry]

How to train your dragon, Despicable Me & Shrek Forever After also in contention for Best Animated Feature

Other Contenders include Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows : Part 1, Iron Man 2, Love and Other Drugs, Never Let Me Go, The kids are all right, The Town, Kick-Ass, The Company Men & Hereafter

Well, Enough of Movies and Oscars for today.
Catch ye people some other time

Peace!

New Theories

Okay... I'm back after a long break... Had been to Shirdi and Sirsi... Nice places... but more on that some other time...

I have come up with two more interesting theories. One on the Mayan Calendar [ Yesshh. One more theory. Bloody never ending conshpiracy theories :P]. The other one is on Deja Vu's and Tangent Universes. What is common between these two theories..?? Movies.. :P That too movies starting with the letter 'D'.. :D

Okay... The First One is based on the movie 'District 9'. Although a lot of people say it an OK type movie, I say it was a brilliant one...!! Nice to see the prawns prancing all over Johannesburg.
Now, In the movie [Spoiler Alert] one of the lead characters Wikas Van Der Merwe transforms into a prawn too. He tries helping a Father-Son Prawn Duo to get out of earth. While leaving the Father Prawn says " I will return in 3 years ". The movie ends with hints of a sequel called 'District 10'.
Now the Prawn says that it will return in 3 years. the movie got released in 2009. which means sequel is will hit the screens somewhere in 2012. Oh! did I say 2012..?? The doomsday year..??
Yes, People... According to me this a big movie cover up. 21.12.2012 is a Friday. The only thing thats gonna happen on that day is the worldwide release of 'District 10' :P :D

Cool theory right..? Next theory in the next blog.. A lot of 'research' is being done still.. But its definitely worth a wait.. Until then Happy Ugadi... Tchau

The Day I Smelled the N2O

Laughing, giggling, grinning I was
When I went to the dentist with a worthy cause
Plucking my tooth he was, with ease and no pain
And me chuckling, rolling, jostling again and again
Psyched up I was when I was at the dentists
It was time for me to consult a psychiatrist

I had lost a family and a tiny tooth
To a public bombing which killed my dear ones in a phone booth
Depressed I was to see the world under chaos
And also to see the humanity goin for a toss
Pain in my tooth, pain in my mind
Desperate I was for the things to rewind
So here I am at the dentist today
Today... The day I smelled the N2O

We wrote it in 20 minutes :)

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be,
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance,
I have winced but not cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance,
My head is bloodied but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears,
Looms but the horror of the shade.
And yet the menace of the years,
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

New Year and My New Conspiracy Theory

Happy Twenty Ten.. [T&T]

New Years Eve went out well. Me and my brother went out along with a few friends. We went to one of our friends farm house. Got drunk, Didn't dance..tried my hand at Deejaying though. And it is not as easy as it turns out be. We had a fine Biriyani for dinner. Well, It turned out be a midnight snack; Along with pastries and kababs. It was a nice party.
May this year shower everyone with good stuff...loads of'em,
For the world will change in 2012.. :P

Another 1078 Days left for 21.12.2012 and its about time I bought myself a Shotgun. What if the world gets infected by some frikin' virus. I dont want to be zombie. Definitely not like the ones in the movies with blood dripping mouths and retarded walk. Heh heh..

Well, Me and K-Bro came up with our own theory about 2012.
Let me put it this way. Everything that has a beginning must have an end.
Everything that has an end... Will lead you to a new beginning.

We all know that the Mayans loved the stars and made everything around them relating to the stars and the celestial heavens...blah blah blah...bleh bleh bleh...blew blew...
And all of a sudden they disappear. Gone. No Post-Its. No traces. No nothing.
Just gone. Where did they go..?? Are they all dead..?? Or are they going to come back..??
Were they aliens..??

On 21.12.2012, As we have heard from astrophysicists. We are going to witness an astronomic phenomenon called "The Celestial Alignment". This happens once in 20000 years or so where all the planets align including the sun on the galactic equator or milky ways equator. This is a very rare event. And definitely the Mayans would love to see it. As they would witness the "Beginning". Yes, The calendar is going to end on that day. But on that day they will see the galaxies the stars the planets all together in one place. Thats what it is all about. They missed the Big-Bang. If at all there was one..:P
Atleast they are going to witness something of a similar magnitude.

That is the new beginning.
And the Mayans will return on 21.12.2012 to witness this event
All those books, videos, movies on 2012 are just made to market and make money.
Max. Theres going to be a Tidal wave. Big one.. thats it.

This is our take on 2012. Only time can tell what exactly will happen on that day.
Anywasy
21.12.2012 is a Friday. And I'm going for a movie.
Hope the cinema halls are open...:P

3 Days of a Death Anniversary and 3 Idiots

It was the 3rd Day of my Grandmothers first death ceremony on tuesday, Like all other Brahmin ceremonies it was done in a pretty orthodox manner.
Me and my Brother doing the usual job of teasing, Listening to "Expert" advices from uncle and aunts. Jeez They do give a lot of free advices
Funny thing about first death anniversaries is that they are celebrated for 3 days.
First day, Its more like a mourning session, Even the food tastes the same. Most side dishes are bitter and sour but they are definitely better than lunch at a wedding hall.
Second day, I really have no clue what they do.
The Third day, it is believed that the person deceased.. will reach the gates of heaven after a year long tedious journey. So its celebration time.. :P
Even the dishes change. Mourning food suddenly shifts to Marriage food. No more bitter and sour side dishes.
Hmmm, We are so used to alternatives arent we..?? I mean Bittergourds, Sweet Potatoes change to Pineapple and Potatoes.
Even when it comes to our constitution amendments, amendments and amendments. Anyways food was brilliant. Had fun time there

After a while we came up with the idea of watching "3 Idiots", So within no time, Me and Shortie narrowed down the plan. Even my brother wanted to watch the movie.
We bought black tickets, And the movie started..

Heres what I think about the movie.

There is no doubt that when it comes to perfection no one can match Aamir Khan. Yes.. He certainly looks like a college student and acts like one too.
Madhavan and sharman Joshi too have acted well. Boman Irani's role as a nutty irritating College Director is well suited. Reminds you of Dr.Asthana from MBBS
Kareena Kapoor's acting reminds you of Geet from "Jab We Met". But the real credit goes to the director. He's done a brilliant job of adapting the book well into a movie.
A well written screenplay. You'll find a touch of Munnabhai in a few parts.

The First half is hysterical. Right from the first scene. I wonder if Aamir was really as mischievous in his real college life as he is in this movie.
Second half is not as funny as the first half, Theres a twist in the story. Ending is bit of a drag. But.. No probs.. Bollywood movie right.. I expected it

Overall, A family entertainer. One of Raju Hirani's best after Lage Raho.
I'll give it 4/5...

Aaall Izzz Wellll...Aaall Izzz Wellll...Aaall Izzz Wellll..!!!!

Back after a really long break

Ok...
Exams done... Finally a graduate... A dream come true for any bloke who's studying... A little less burden from now on...?? I don't think so... Degree was just the beginning... Over a period of six months a lot things took place... which have changed and have made an impact on me both physically and mentally...

Long Story Cut Short...
I've learnt a lot of things...!!

I've been watching a lot of movies lately, One reason being to know more about directing and writing skills... The other being that I stay completely jobless after my VFX classes... In a way I have expanded my movie database like hell...!!
"MoCabulary" as I would term it...

Avatar being my last movie at the cinema halls... I have developed a strange liking for Theaters rather than Multiplexes. Simple reason being that the audience get involved a lot when compared to multiplexes. Its like you are sitting in a fully packed stadium, An Indian Cricket stadium where the crowd are going really crazy unlike all the other English cricket grounds where you just hear claps [ Here it mean the Multiplexes ]

Other than that I saw a Dustin Hoffman movie named "Rain Man" yesterday. Must say his acting skills are beyond your imagination.

As for today, A very uneventful day. Have to watch Kill Bill Volume 1 & 2 tonight..
\m/ Tarantino...!!!
